The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. -Jacques Cousteau Timeless takes time. And so it is with the coveted coastal treasures that wash ashore during low tides all over the world, known as sea glass. Shaped over many sunrises and sunsets, these bits of coloured glass drift for as many as two hundred years, weathering storms in the salt water, tossing and turning, Mother Natures own polishing that gives them their characteristically smooth, frosted texture. Prominent in the Northeastern United States, beaches along the shores of New Jersey and New York can be found teeming with these heirlooms and artefacts of whiskey and spirits, trinkets, medicine bottles, dinnerware, jam jars, old taillights and if fortune finds you, a piece of an antique ink bottle. First used decoratively at the turn of the last century, beachcombers seek out these little gems giving credence to the statement that one mans trash is another mans treasure. A bounty of colours ranging from amber to green, black to pale pink and clear frost to the rarest turquoise blue, make sea glass a highly collectable commodity. To celebrate the nearby shores of Esterbrooks birthplace, the Sea Glass has been added as a Core colour in the Estie range. About the Esterbrook Estie The Estie is a tribute to the Esterbrook brand and its storied history. Short for Esterbrook, the Estie evokes a feeling of 1930s nostalgia, a time when fountain pens were an integral part of life and communication for most Americans. The Esterbrook Estie fountain pen is a comfortably balanced pen. This pen is made of blended and turned acrylic with a Sea Glass mix of colours and a highly-polished finish. A cushion closure on the cap provides a secondary seal to ensure a wet nib, and a sleek clip provides a clean accent for the cap and slides easily to ones shirt pocket. It has a stainless steel nib made by JoWo of Germany, and it uses a Standard International ink cartridge or converter. This pen comes presented in a gift box, and includes an ink converter for use with bottled ink. ABOUT THE JOURNALER NIB The Esterbrook brand was famous for its specialised nibs, and in recognition of this, Esterbrook have asked some of the most prominent and exceptional American nibmeisters to create nibs to be a part of Esterbrooks storied legacy. This project allows users to get a custom nib grind on your pen before you receive it. The first of these is the Journaler nib, created by Gena Salorino of the Custom Nib Studio in Los Angeles. An apprentice to nibmeister John Mottishaw of Nibs.com for nearly four years, Genas nib work is derived from his style, but as shes established Custom Nib Studio, her signature nibs have become well-known in the marketplace for her own trademark style and beautiful handmade quality. In her own words, the custom nib Gena is grinding for Esterbrook is a medium stub grind, based on the vintage Esterbrook 9314M nib. The idea is that its smooth and friendly enough for everyday use, gives your writing some flair, all without being too huge for practical writing. She has named it The Journaler.
