This pen is inspired by the classic Americana of Route 66 and the Painted Desert along the highway. We’d never heard of the Petrified Forest, but it sounds pretty cool and is well worth a Google for some amazing photos!

Here’s a little Geography lesson on us !

Millions of years ago, the trees of the Petrified Forest, in NE Arizona, were toppled by volcanic eruptions, and then swept away by flowing water and deposited in marshes. They were covered with mud and volcanic ash, and layers of sediment. The logs remained buried for millions and millions of years, undergoing an extremely slow process of petrification which essentially turned the logs to colourful stone. The area became covered with an ocean, covering the logs with even more sediment. Then, about 60 million years ago, the ocean disappeared and was replaced by flowing rivers. The rivers gradually eroded away over 2,600 feet of sediment, slowly exposing the petrified wood that litters the landscape at the Petrified Forest National Park.

About the Esterbrook Estie

The Estie is a tribute to the Esterbrook brand and its storied history. Short for Esterbrook, the Estie evokes a feeling of 1930s nostalgia, a time when fountain pens were an integral part of life and communication for most Americans.

The Esterbrook Estie fountain pen is a comfortably balanced pen. This pen is made of blended and turned acrylic with a highly-polished finish. A cushion closure on the cap provides a secondary seal to ensure a wet nib, and a sleek clip provides a clean accent for the cap and slides easily to ones shirt pocket. It has a stainless steel nib made by JoWo of Germany, and it uses a Standard International ink cartridge or converter.

This pen comes presented in a gift box, and includes an ink converter for use with bottled ink.

About the Needlepoint Custom Nib

The Needlepoint is ground from a fine nib, and is the creation of Colorado-based nibmeister Kirk Speer of Pen Realm.A super-fine nib that's perfect for Japanese scripts like Kanji and Hiragana, as well as for detailed note-taking, the Needlepoint should be in anyone's artillery who thinks even an extra-fine could be finer. But it's perfect for everyday pen users, too! The Needlepoint gives a very precise line good for writing small in tight spaces like the margins of books or maximising the use of a notebook. It can also be very good for artists and sketching, The nib does not grab or tear paper, but writes very smoothly.
